RAD Studio 2010 Team

I'm testing YouTube's HD format to see if it's "good enough" for screen casts...

Don't read anything else into this test than the fact that I'm testing it out...

  1. just as a reminder, many corporate users are unable to access youtube due to internet filtering.

  2. You know, I knew that. That's an excellent comment, and thanks for the reminder.

  3. How can you work with that IDE. It is so slow. Or is it my internet connection that stops the video every 1.5 second :-) [The video is on the slowest youtube server.

  4. That's probably because I'm a YouTube "nobody"... :)

I doubt I can push it to a more performant server myself...

  5. I've been doing my videos at 800x600 (challenging) with a slightly larger IDE font, and this works okay for the standard YouTube resolution. I've started uploading the videos in their native format (rather than downscaling them) which makes them very clear in HD mode. I might start recording in a higher res (maybe 1024x600), but I still want the Camtasia flash versions of the videos that I have on my site to be as small as possible - not everyone has reliable fast internet - probably my most re-occurring request is to make them downloadable for viewing offline.

  6. Looked pretty darn good from here.

Since it would be on YouTube and accessible from a private connection at home, at any time of the day, I don't know that you should worry overly about the filtering policy of some companies.

After all, if I can't watch something at work (usually due to bandwidth issues more than filtering), I can always catch it at home.

  7. I'm watching this at home at it's pretty clear for me and no slowdowns. Putting it on YouTube will expose RAD Studio to a much larger audience so I think it's worth a go.

I don't have broadband at home due to costs.
